Beautiful has a daily regimen

Choosing the right products for your skin type and following a regimen are the two key components to achieving healthy looking skin

1. Cleanse

BENEFITS

Cleansers purify the skin by removing dirt, sweat, makeup, sebum and impurities from the air.

CAN I SKIP THIS STEP?

Washing prepares your skin for the application of moisturizers and treatment products. It doesn't make sense to put fresh skin care products on dirty skin. Doing so merely traps dirt and dead skin cells and leads to clogged pores.

TIPS

Massage onto wet face. Work into lather using small circular movements, always working down the neck and up from your jawline to your forehed, going outward from the center of the face. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

2. Tone

BENEFITS

Toners remove any residue left from your cleanser and prepare your skin to absorb more moisture.

CAN I SKIP THIS STEP?

Without toners, it is much harder to achieve the results that you're looking for. Toners are often humectants, working to bind moisture to the skin and make moisturizers work better.

TIPS

Sprinkle a generous amount of toner on a cotton pad and gently smooth over your neck and face, working upward and outward from the center. Blot any excess with a tissue or dry muslin cloth to keep it from lying on your skin and making moisturizer harder to apply.

3. TREAT

BENEFITS

Treatment products help to renew skin's clarity and texture for a healthy looking glow. Oilier skins will notice an improvement in clarity and overall texture. Dryer skins will see a reduction in dry patches for a smoother look and feel.

CAN I SKIP THIS STEP?

The treatment step is essential, as treatment products contain the highest concentration of active ingredients and help boost the benefits of your unique skin regimen.

TIPS

Smooth onto face and throat, before moisturizer, morning or night.

4. MOISTURIZE

BENEFITS

The final step in your twice-daily routine is to moisturize your skin. This step allows your skin to look fresher, with or without makeup.

CAN I SKIP THIS STEP?

No matter what type of skin you have - dry, oily or combination - you should always moisturize. Keeping your skin perfectly hydrated all day is no small task. This last step completes your regimen to help your skin maintain its own ideal moisture level so it feels healthy and balanced.

TIPS

After cleansing and toning your face, smooth lotion onto your face and throat. When your skin feels dry, by all means apply more moisturizer. Drinking plenty of water makes your whole body and your skin work to stay hydrated.

  • MISCONCEPTION:

Showers help dry skin stay moist.

FACT:They don’t. In fact, long showers leach moisture from the skin. Keep showers to five minutes and use lukewarm water. A water temperature above 100 degrees Fahrenheit causes blood vessel dilation that produces water loss through the skin’s outer layer.

  • MISCONCEPTION:

Using products meant for oily skin will help prevent breakouts

FACT:The main issue for people with combination skin is choosing what kind of skin care to use. Many people try products meant for oily skin because they think breakouts equal oily skin. This usually leads to dry flaky skin and lots of frustration. Combination skin requires gentle oil control in certain areas as well as moisture to ensure balanced healthy skin.

  • MISCONCEPTION:

    Dry skin = dehydrated skin

FACT:Although truly dry skin and dehydrated skin feel the same, the cause and treatment of each condition is very different. With dry skin, the sebaceous glands are not producing enough oil so your skin needs to be kept moisturized at all times. Dehydration means there is an excessive dead cell buildup on the surface of your skin which makes it hard for your skin to retain water efficiently. No amount of moisturizing will fix the problem, but regular and thorough exfoliation can greatly reduce or eliminate dehydration.

  • MISCONCEPTION:

    You shouldn't moisturize oily skin.

FACT:Even oily skin needs to be moisturized to look its best. Think of it this way: moisture is about water, not oil. When you wash your face, regardless of what skin type you have, you're removing the oil that holds moisture in your skin.

  • MISCONCEPTION:

Oily skin has to be washed more frequently.

FACT:You need to cleanse twice a day and only twice a day. With this type of skin, avoid the temptation to cleanse more frequently, because this can overstimulate your skin and cause breakouts.

    5 of 6

  • MISCONCEPTION:

    Oily skin requires daily exfoliation

FACT:With oily skin, you may be tempted to exfoliate every day, thinking that the more exfoliation, the easier it will be to control and reduce your oil secretion. In fact, the opposite is true. Daily exfoliation can overactivate your skin and make it even oilier. Instead, exfoliate a maximum of three times a week.
