The Ceramide Purifying Toner is a two-phase toner that cleanses and purifies while soothing and calming skin. In its first phase, botanicals gently cleanse and remove excess residue left behind after cleansing; in its second phase, a Ceramide 3 formula soothes and calms, leaving skin feeling refreshed, soft, and ready to absorb the maximum benefits from your moisturizer. It's formulated in two phases that naturally separate in the bottle: a purifying botanical phase and a soothing Ceramide 3 phase. Shaking the bottle well right before use recombines the two phases so you apply them together in one balanced sweep. Give it a good shake, then sweep it on with a cotton pad.

Use it after cleansing and before your moisturizer. Cleanse first, then shake the toner and sweep it over clean skin with a cotton pad to remove any leftover residue and prep skin. Follow with your treatment or serum and then your moisturizer, which absorbs more effectively on freshly toned skin.

It is not alcohol-free as denatured alcohol is one of its main ingredients, which helps give the toner its purifying, residue-removing feel. It is fragrance-free and labeled suitable for all skin types. Oily or combination skin often appreciates that clarifying finish; if your skin is dry or sensitive, always follow with a moisturizer and see how your skin responds, since alcohol-based toners can feel more astringent.

Ceramides are lipids that occur naturally in the skin and help form its protective moisture barrier, which keeps hydration in and irritants out. Ceramide 3 is one of these barrier lipids; in this toner it helps re-texturize, soothe, and strengthen the appearance of skin, so the purifying step feels comforting rather than stripping. This toner's job is to purify and prep. It removes residue and gets skin ready to absorb moisture, rather than acting as a standalone hydrator. Its Ceramide 3 phase helps soothe and calm, but because the formula contains alcohol it can feel drying for some skin types, so it works best followed immediately by a moisturizer to lock in hydration.
